Stories & Storytellers: Part 1

I have been overwhelmed with stories recently – whether its amazing works of fiction that I’m reading, new people I am meeting, or brainstorming I’m doing (NaNoWriMo starts in 2 days!! More on this in P2). This was part of the reason for the title of this blog “Love & Stories.” I can’t seem to escape the word – STORY – or ignore the presence (and value of it) in my life.

This weekend I met with a group of women to talk about our lives & just have some good-ole-fashion adult conversation (without toddlers running around our feet). It felt so refreshing to just hang out around a dining room table (delicious tea steaming in our cute china cups) and just enjoy each other. It had been too long. In fact, it was such an encouraging time we decided to keep it going. Every Saturday: women getting together to talk about their lives, their struggles & successes, and specifically, the Jewish/Hebraic roots of our faith. I can NOT wait.

Even more exciting was receiving my official FaceBook invitation this afternoon with the official title of our little group being: “Stories & Storytellers: Women’s Study Group.” We didn’t even talk about “story” specifically yesterday afternoon, but once again this little word turned up.

Life itself is the most wonderful fairytale of all. —Hans Christian Andersen

The master was unmoved. To all their objections he would say, ‘You have yet to understand that the shortest distance between a human being and Truth is a story’.
—Anthony de Mello
